My personal favorite dij is 48 3/4" long, made from 2" i.d. ABS pipe. PVC works great too and is a better material from the micro-toxic point of view. Cut your pipe a bit long (trim to tune it later). Create a mouthpiece from an endcap for 1 1/2" pipe. Cut a hole in the center of the flat area on the endcap with a 1 1/4" hole saw. Sand the edges of the hole to make a comfortable opening. Now you'll be butt-glueing the cap to the end of the pipe. Make sure the pipe is cut square. Sand or file the edges to make a smooth surface. Do the same for the edge of the the cap/mouthpiece so that the two pieces meet without gaps. Use the welding adhesive for the kind of pipe you're using. ABS has a black adhesive for an invisible joint. Use a clear PVC adhesive for cosmetics. There's a little "hip" at the joint which I sand/file to a rounded edge for comfort after the adhesive sets.

Decorate the surface if you like. I made patterns with a dremel bit, sprayed color into them and sanded the surface along the lenght of the tubing. On black, the sanded surface looks like decorated wood grain. The pipe dig is excellent for resonance, cougars and bears flock around me when I'm playing :-)

Note from Dave Hagmeier: "The Forest Service has banned dijeridoos on all Forest sevice lands. (They say the sound provokes bear and cougar attacks.)"
